Extension

Prompt learners to practise a user-centred approach that considers who their QR code is for and how it will be used in order to intentionally design an effective experience using digital tools.

Guide learners to try another activity in the Understanding QR Codes series:

About Activity

This activity is designed to support learners to design and develop their own digital outcomes by linking QR codes to meaningful content. Learners will use a QR code generator to create codes that connect to digital artefacts, test their functionality, and present them within a shared, real-world context.

Guide learners to apply intentional design thinking by considering audience and purpose, curating digital content linked to original QR codes, and evaluating the effectiveness of their QR-based solutions.

Essential Guidance for Digital Safety & Wellbeing

QR code generators and linked content introduce privacy, data security, and content control risks, especially when students are publishing or sharing digital material.

Teachers should:

  • Carefully select QR code generators that don’t require student accounts or personal data or expose usage data

  • Use closed digital ecosystems like school-managed platforms and secure shared drives

  • Supervise device use closely, particularly with younger learners

It is best practice to:

  • Avoid linking QR codes to personal or sensitive information

  • Make sure all linked content is teacher-reviewed before sharing

  • Avoid students independently searching for or linking to external websites

  • Discuss with students who can access their content and why that matters
